What is Political Education For Students (PEFS)?
Political Education For Students (PEFS) is dedicated to igniting a passion for politics, democracy, and government in school communities. We offer a comprehensive suite of interactive educational services to help teachers enhance their curriculum in these vital citizenship areas. Our programs are designed to enthuse, engage, and educate, equipping students with the knowledge and skills to become informed and engaged citizens.
Why Is Political Education Important?
We expect young people to grow up into politically informed, active and engaged citizens. We expect them to vote. We expect them to defend our democratic principles. We expect them to meaningfully contribute to civic society. Yet, this is a fundamental gap in our education system, especially as we seek to extend the right to vote to sixteen-year-olds. Too many students leave school without a systemic and structured political education that has been delivered by experienced and expert teachers. Political Education For Students seeks to remedy this and to help students meet their responsibilities as citizens in a modern democracy.
What About Adults?
We know that adults are important in this mission, too. Whether that is the teachers and school leaders who educate our young people, or whether it is people working in the wider world who themselves have not had the chance to develop and nurture their own political literacy and engagement. That is why we provide teacher training and development opportunities, as well as partner with businesses, organisations and companies for the benefit of their teams. Ultimately, we want everyone to be engaged, enthused and educated in politics, citizenship, democracy and government.
How Do You Work With Organisations Beyond Schools?
We don't limit ourselves to schools. We know that politics, government and international affairs are a presence in all of our lives, whatever our ages. That is why we work with organisations and companies to foster the engagement, enthusiasm and education for politics through team building opportunities, public speaking and supporting corporations to utilise their Corporate Social Responsibility capabilities. We are also fortunate to have commercial organisations and businesses partner with us to fund political literacy programmes in schools for the benefit of young people.
